Why do you think Singapore Youth were so different in the past.

In the past youth mostly come from a unwell income family and was unable to study so they do not take things for granted. However, youth nowadays are from well income family and is able to go to school to study. Lifestyle in the past was not that modern as it is now so youth than do not get influence by what's around them as at that time it was all about hardship and youth had to play a part to keep the family going. But now lifestyle is all modern and youth are influence by social medias.

Summarize the methods and aims of youth activism in post-war Singapore By: Sherman

Youth activism is work by students to cause political, environmental, economic or social change. Although often focused on schools, curriculum and education funding. Student groups have influenced greater political events. In the past, students went to school at night with the help of itinerant hawkers. Students which came from good schools were tasked to teach those who could not afford school fees. Adults also came to attend these classes to learn how to read and write. This student movement had raised the importance of independence and the ties with people of Malaya.

Why do you think Singapore youths were so different in the past? By: Sherman

I think that Singapore youths were so different in the past due to the influences of stuff around them. In the past, there was no such thing as internet chatting nor was there any social media. However, in today's world, we have many youths who use social media to carry out their daily lifestyle. In the past, Singapore youths live by having fun with friends but now, they are having fun with their computers. The difference in both technology and the person's lifestyle now showed that we are different from our past.

Summarize the methods and aims of youth activism in post-war singapore by ZhiGang

Summary: In the past, youths attended schools but they were barely enough to fill their stomach in schools. For the poorer ones, they attended night schools founded by itinerant hawkers. Students that were from better schools taught those students that were in other schools and also supporting them to teach each other. Adults who were illiterate went on literate classes to study how to read and write as well. Youths created the student movement to raise the importance of having independence that would restore fraternal co-existence between the peoples of Malaya. Students then start to prepare themselves for the nation after independence.

Youths in the past were too poor to study. Hence they would grasp the chance to study well so that they will have a better life. Nowadays, youths have the chance to study but they do not study well as most families are rich and think that their parents can support them forever.

Aitzaz Hasan: Tributes to Pakistan teenager killed when he stopped a bomber by ZhiGang

Summary: Tributes have been pouring for a Pakistani teenager who was killed on Monday when he tackled a suicide bomber targeting his school in the Hangu area. Aizaz Hasan was with his friends outside school when he noticed a man wearing a suicide vest. He left his friends and got hold of the suicide bomber who detonated his vest. News has been pouring over the teenager praising him for sacrificing his life to save the school and it is indeed a great honor.

Opinions: In my opinion, the teenager was indeed very brave. He managed to save a whole school of 2,000 lives. Although the teenager sacrificed his life for that, he is deemed as a hero by the country. The teenager did not care about his life at all and he probably thought at that moment was to save the others from getting killed in his school. I deeply admire him whose actions greatly won praises and gratitude on the social media sites.

What a difference a principal can make by JunTian

Summary: Many heartland schools have introduced a variety of activities, many mooted by innovative principals. In recent rounds of appointments of principals, much was made of the Education Ministry moving senior principals to heartland schools. Education Minister Heng Swee Keat called it a tangible way to make every school a good school. An experienced principal can have a significant effect. But a principal with a heart and a determination to make an impact on children’s lives makes all the difference. Different principals have took many initiatives to improve not only the school generally, but also to help each student improve themselves. From compulsory music lessons to going around areas near the school to seek help from shopkeepers and residence to spot if any students are misbehaving, these principals hope to nurture not only students with good results, but also with good moral values and a sense of art. Principals have also emphasized on academics and co-curriculum activities in order to attract more students.

Opinion: I feel that the impact a principal has on the school and each and every student is really adverse. A good principal's main concern is always their student. Regardless whether it is academics, character, their problems, these principals will try their best to help their students. I feel that the many principals listed have really made many significant improvements to the school. They are willing to sacrifice their personal time just to make sure the best can be given. I feel that they are doing these truly because they want the best for students, not just to improve the school's reputation. Therefore, I feel that these principals are really very noble, and all principals and teachers should take them as role models.
