Belfast Fire Bomb: Man burst into flames in shop by ZhiGang

Summary:
A man ran off with his clothes on fire through shoppers in Ireland. The man appears to be moving something underneath his jacket and a large flame was ignited inside his coat and engulfed his head, shoulders as he tries to put out the flames. Then, he ran out of the shop and left behind a device that dropped out of his pocket without him knowing. There is utter disgust in Ireland with about 2 small bomb explosions in a month.
Opinion:

In my opinion, I feel that the recent bombing in North Ireland is showing that her people were very unhappy with the way how she is ruled. News reports has showed that the bombing were rather rare in recent years. However, I think a country ought to stand together as one. A government should take the consideration of her people or else a civil war will happen within a country. The government should find out where the problem lies or the cruel bombing will take more lives.

  

South Korea warns of North Korea's 'reign of terror'

Summary:

North Korea is carrying out a reign of terror by undertaking a large-scale purge in order to strengthen Kim Jong-Un’s power. By doing so, he stripped off his uncle’s posts as administration who was believed to be a powerful man. Kim Jong-Un said that North Korea will never forgive a corrupted traitor to family and country. With such an act, many has believed that Kim Jong-Un is rising up with power which could threaten the South Korea if this acts continues.

Opinion:

In my opinion, I feel that Kim Jong-Un is doing such an act to imprint into all the officers that North Korea will not hesitate to strip an official off his posts whether he might be a kin to Kim Jong-Un. This will put the officials in fear and not do any corrupted acts. When Kim Jong-Un stripped off his uncle’s posts, he did not hesitate whether chang was his relative. Thus, I do not think that Kim Kong-Un is rising up to power.

 

24 Indian nationals charged with rioting in Little India by JunTian

Summary: 24 Indian nationals have been charged with rioting in Little India on Sunday night. Each of the 24 men who appeared in court on Tuesday afternoon faces one rioting charge and the maximum penalty for the offence is seven years' jail and caning. The Law Society's pro-bono services are looking to offer legal aid to the accused through their volunteer lawyers. So far, more than 10 lawyers have indicated they are willing to do so. 28 people were arrested but 4 were released when they were found to be innocent. This is the first riot Singapore faced since 40 years. It started because of a fatal accident that took place at the junction of Race Course Road and Hampshire Road. Around 400 people were involved in the riot. Vehicles were set on fire, and emergency services workers were injured.

Opinion: I feel that this riot is very uncalled for. Singapore have always been known for its safety and now its reputation have been destroyed. Even worse, over 400 people were injured because of this riot. I feel that it is very meaningless starting this riot. Help should be seek after the accident took place instead of violence. Now, the problem only got worse with even more casualties. Innocent medical officers and police officers were also injured. However, I believe that the 24 suspects will be given a fair trail. After all, they have been offered lawyers to help them.

Nelson Mandela, former South African president, dies

Summary: Mandela, the revered icon of South Africa's anti-apartheid struggle and a towering figure of 20th century politics died due to lung infection which he been battling. He was elected as the South Africa first black president after spending three decade as political prisoner.  after hearing the news about his death south Africans poured onto the street near his home, arm-in-arm joining a group singing songs celebrating his struggle against apartheid. he taught his compatriot how to be unified and believed in themselves after prison. He was a great leader and no one will be able to fill his shoe.

opinion: I feel that he's a great leader that is respected by everyone in the political. his care not for himself  but also for other around is a thing that we should learn from him. Leaders from around the world should have him as a role model to lead their people to a better life.

Hong Kong to quarantine 17 people over bird flu case

Summary: Hong Kong will quarantine 17 people who are mostly relative of the employer of a Indonesian domestic helper who caught the deadly H7N9 bird flu and is in a critical condition after a visit to mainland china. The 17 had been tested negative but had been sent to a holiday village for surveillance. Research for vaccine had begin and eventually hope to roll out by late 2014. Hong Kong is especially alert to the spread of viruses after the SARS incident.

Opinion: I feel that it's right to quarantine those who had come in contact with the person carrying the virus even though being tested negative for it as they will never know when the virus will be positive on them and start spreading to other which may cause another similar incident like SARS.

Singapore's teaching strategies are working: Heng Swee Keat

Summary: The PISA assessment test 15-year old on how well they know their reading, mathematics, and science. This year Singapore took part and was rank top five. The important thing behind the number is Singapore student are improving. This time Singapore did better when Singapore first took part in 2009, which shows that Singapore is moving in the right direction. Mr Heng said that there's improvement shows Singapore teaching strategies are working, and this is possible because of the high motivation of students, and the strong guidance and care from parents.

Opinion: I feel that Singapore should keep going on in this direction so that Singapore student would keep improving. Singapore should also take part in more of this kind of assessment so as to know if we are declining or improving.

PSLE not the be-all and end-all by JunTian

Summary: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong called on parents not to see the PSLE as “the be-all and end-all” for their children. He encouraged students that even if they did not do well this time, there will still be chance for them to move up in the future if they can prove themselves. He also acknowledged that the pressure on students was sometimes greater than desired, especially during key examinations like the PSLE.  He encourage parents and students to find a good balance between work and play. However, while ensuring that students do not receive excessive pressure, parents must also not compromise while developing their children, and allow them to reach their full potential and prepare for their future. He also promotes all-rounded education in schools.

Opinion: I feel that Mr Lee is right about how parents and students should view the PSLE. Although it determines which secondary school students will go to, students can still prove themselves and go to secondary schools of their choice later on. Parents should not pressurise students about their results but guide them and motivate them to do their best. At the same time, schools should not focus only on academic results but in nurturing students in different aspects.
